The Technik Museum Speyer is a technology museum in Speyer in the South-west of Germany. It is part of the Auto & Technik Museum Sinsheim, both belonging to the same organization, the Auto & Technik Museum e.V. In the beginning of the 1990s the Sinsheim museum had reached its size limits and a new location was necessary for expansion. The opportunity to use the former Pfalz Aircraft Company locations in Speyer came soon after and the new museum opened its doors in 1991. Just like at Sinsheim, the financing of the museum is based on membership subscriptions, donations and the admission charges exclusively. All surplus funds are applied to the expansion of the museum. As of 2004, it has more than 2,000 exhibits and an exhibition area of more than 150,000 square meters (indoors and outdoors) and it has more than half a million visitors per year. Besides the aircraft shown here, the museum includes such different objects like tractors, locomotives, cars, construction machines, military vehicles and the largest space exhibition in Europe. |
